Robotic Spine Surgery

Robotic-assisted spine surgery is an advanced technology designed to enhance precision, accuracy and planning in complex spinal procedures. By integrating detailed pre-operative imaging with real-time intra-operative guidance, robotic systems assist the surgeon in optimising implant positioning and surgical alignment while maintaining a minimally invasive approach where appropriate.

Mr McGillion was one of the first spine surgeons in the UK to introduce robotic surgery into his practice and has over five years’ experience utilising this technology in both routine and complex spinal procedures. Robotic assistance can be particularly beneficial in spinal fixation surgery, sacroiliac joint fusion and deformity correction, where accurate implant placement is critical.

Advancing Standards in Spine Surgery

In addition to his clinical work, Mr McGillion regularly participates as faculty on international training courses, teaching the principles and techniques of robotic spine surgery to colleagues from across the globe. His involvement reflects a commitment not only to innovation within his own practice but also to advancing standards of care more widely within the spinal community.

Mr McGillion maintains a strong professional interest in remaining at the forefront of emerging technologies and evolving surgical techniques. This includes ongoing engagement with developments such as augmented reality navigation, an area of growing interest within spinal surgery that may further enhance visualisation, accuracy and surgical planning in the future.
